Andrea Dovizioso Mugello 2016 Helmet

The Mugello round of any MotoGP season usually sees all the Italian riders rushing back to their designer’s studio in order to create a special helmet design to mark the occasion. Valentino Rossi usually steals the headlines with his creations, but Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone usually bring something eyecatching to the track as well.

In 2016 Andrea Dovizioso wore probably one of the best helmet designs he has had in years to the Mugello round of the MotoGP. The helmet was created by Starline Designers, a famous Italian design studio that are probably one of the most active and prolific designers in recent years for creating race helmet designs. You can check out all the images below.

The helmet was dubbed ‘The Italian Stallion‘, and it featured Dovi’s long running ‘stallion’ motif – this is a motif that Dovi has raced with for years and his helmets usually feature a white horse and a dark horse, each horse is supposed to represent the traits that Dovi tries to bring to every race – the dark horse signifying aggression and grit, the white horse representing integrity and honesty.

The two horses in his 2016 Mugello helmet were combined into a single stunning image on the back of the helmet.

The helmet featured deep blue strips at the front of the helmet which changed to red stripes towards the rear of the helmet. A beautiful looking design, classy and striking.

Dovi helmet 2017

Andrea Dovizioso has tweaked his Suomy helmet design for the 2017 MotoGP season.

Dovi has gone back to Starline Designers and has got them to update the Stallion design that he has been racing with for a number of years now. The two horses on his helmet signify the characteristics that Dovi feels are essential to his racing style – the white horse represents honesty and integrity, while the black horse represents aggression and grit. His nickname ‘Desmo Dovi’ is stamped on the rear.

This 2017 design sees the horses taking up more of the space on the sides of the helmet, and the top of the helmet now has blue, white, and red stripes. There is also a blue stripe that runs down the center of tehhelmet to the chin.
